On the 14th Anniversary of Mohammad Amin Harsouni’s Martyrdom: A Story of One Person That Became a Lasting Legacy

In August 2012, in the streets of Ariha, a young Syrian man was shot by a regime sniper while trying to save a friend who had already been struck by gunfire. Mohammad Amin Harsouni did not hesitate to step forward and help his companion despite the danger, and he was hit by another bullet. He continued bleeding for more than six hours before losing his life.

That moment was not the end of the story, but the beginning of an impact that would extend for more than a decade. A group of physicians, academics, and volunteers decided, in honor of Amin’s memory and sacrifice, to turn his loss into a continuing act of good. This gave rise to Al-Ameen Al-Insaniya in 2012, founded in response to the needs of people affected by humanitarian crises, and carrying a message that giving can be an extension of one person’s courage.

Today, 14 years after his martyrdom, Amin’s story remains alive in the memory of everyone who worked with him or later learned of his impact. He is no longer just a name recalled on occasions; he has become a value by which humanitarian work is measured — that the human being must always be the purpose, and that giving must remain stronger than any circumstance or loss.

Since its founding, Al-Ameen Al-Insaniya has worked to translate this commitment into action, supporting healthcare systems, education, and community programs for those affected by crises and disasters, guided by the principles of humanity, neutrality, impartiality, and independence.

On this anniversary, Al-Ameen Al-Insaniya does not simply recall Amin’s name, but renews the pledge on which it was founded: that his impact continue through every hand that helps, and every life that changes for the better. May God have mercy on Amin, who proved that a single act of courage and selflessness can shape a path that lasts for generations.
