Reopening of Al-Hurra Girls’ School in Dair al-Sharqi, Maarat al-Numan, as Part of the “Al-Wafaa for Idlib” Campaign
As part of the “Al-Wafaa for Idlib” campaign, under the patronage of Idlib Governor Mohammad Abdulrahman and in the presence of the Minister of Education, Idlib governorate marked the reopening of 50 schools that had been bombed and destroyed by the forces of the fallen regime, following their rehabilitation and preparation to receive students. Among these schools was Al-Hurra Girls’ School in Dair al-Sharqi, Maarat al-Numan, which reopened its doors to its students today after being rehabilitated with funding from Al-Qalb Al-Kabeer Foundation and implementation by Al-Ameen Al-Insaniya, in a step that affirms that rebuilding people begins with rebuilding schools, and that education remains one of the most important bridges to recovery and building the future.
The school consists of three floors containing 23 classrooms, and operates on a two-shift system to accommodate 1,100 female students, after undergoing a comprehensive rehabilitation process that included doors, windows, and sewage installations, alongside a complete internal reconstruction and the building of an external wall surrounding the building, making it ready to receive students in a safe and well-prepared educational environment.
The decision to designate the school for girls took into account its proximity to the city, making it a suitable and safe option for students’ commute. The school will also serve six surrounding villages, forming a major educational hub that eases the burden on families who previously struggled to send their daughters to distant schools.
This project comes as part of ongoing efforts to provide a better educational environment for students and support their continued studies without interruption, especially in areas suffering from an acute shortage of educational facilities and difficulty accessing existing schools.
The impact of this project is not limited to providing school seats; it extends to strengthening girls’ opportunities to build a better future for themselves and their communities. Education remains one of the most important tools of empowerment, particularly in areas affected by difficult circumstances, where girls’ continued education becomes a message of hope and steadfastness in the face of challenges.
This project is an extension of Al-Qalb Al-Kabeer Foundation’s ongoing efforts in supporting the education sector in areas in need, and a confirmation of the importance of charitable partnerships between funding parties and implementing parties on the ground, foremost among them Al-Ameen Al-Insaniya, in bringing about tangible change on the ground — in line with the national recovery plan that places education at the heart of its priorities, a vision reflected today through the “Al-Wafaa for Idlib” campaign, which marked the reopening of 50 schools across the governorate.
The reopening of Al-Hurra Girls’ School in Dair al-Sharqi is not merely the rehabilitation of an educational building; it is a genuine investment in the future of an entire generation of girls across six surrounding villages, and a step that serves the long-term stability and development of the local community.
