Children’s Journey Toward Hearing and Speech After Cochlear Implantation
In a world filled with sounds, laughter, rustling leaves, and mothers’ calls, some children lived in a silence not of their choosing. Children who were born deaf or lost their hearing early in life, deprived of the simplest of rights: to hear their mother’s voice and to speak her name.
But Al-Ameen Humanitarian Support Organization, supported by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, decided that this silence must come to an end.
From Silence to Sound… A Journey That Begins With Cochlear Implantation
The Voluntary Medical Project for Cochlear Implantation in Syria was launched with the generous support of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, giving dozens of children a real chance to hear again. A cochlear implant is not merely a surgical procedure that ends in the operating room — it is the beginning of a long journey requiring patience, continuous follow-up, and meticulous attention to every detail.
After the surgery, the specialized medical team begins activating and calibrating the device in a way that matches each child’s unique auditory response, since every case is different. Regular follow-up sessions are then held to carefully monitor the development of hearing and speech in each child, with progress recorded step by step.
Rehabilitation Sessions… Where Hope Is Born Anew
In every rehabilitation session, a mother sits beside her child, her eyes carrying a mixture of worry, anticipation, and hope. On the screen before the medical team, curves and data tell the story of this small child and the distance already traveled toward sound.
With each session, the response improves, and the gap between the child and the old world of silence grows wider. A letter is pronounced for the first time. A sound is heard for the first time. A smile appears as the child discovers that another world was waiting all along.
These small moments are what make this project far more than a medical intervention — they make it a true human mission.
Supported by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre
This project stands as a testament to the unwavering support provided by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, which made it possible for Al-Ameen Humanitarian Support Organization to bring this vision to life on Syrian soil — where children continue to suffer the consequences of years of conflict, displacement, and deprivation from the most basic healthcare.
Thanks to this vital support, and under the motto “Towards Unrestricted Humanity,” Al-Ameen continues its journey to ensure that help reaches those who need it most, and that no child remains in silence when it is within our power to give them a voice.
Small in Its Details… Great in Its Impact
Perhaps these children will not remember the details of their surgery, nor the names of the doctors who restored their hearing. But they will always remember the first time they heard their mother’s voice, the first word they ever spoke, and the first laugh that escaped them when they discovered that the world is full of beautiful sounds.
Al-Ameen Humanitarian Support Organization believes that humanity is not measured in numbers, but in moments like these — made possible through the generous support of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre.
