Wahaj: From a Child Held Back by Disability to a Boy Stepping Toward Life at the Prosthetics and Rehabilitation Center in Seiyun, Yemen

Twins were born in the very same moment. One of them stepped into the world with ease, while the other, little Wahaj, had his body held back by neonatal jaundice, which left him with a complete loss of motor function. While his brother ran to discover the world, Wahaj watched from where he sat, in a body that would not obey him. This is the story of a child, a family, and a mother who waited a long time for a smile that would bring her hope back.
When Wahaj turned four, he arrived at the Prosthetics and Rehabilitation Center in the city of Seiyun, in the Republic of Yemen. There his battle began with intensive physiotherapy sessions. The road was not easy. Every small movement demanded patience, repetition, and daily follow-up from a specialized team who believe that every child has the right to stand on his own feet.
As the days passed, results began to appear little by little. Wahaj lifted his head steadily, then learned to sit on his own, and his small body finally overcame its loss of balance. After that he stood and walked, and his first steps drew his mother’s smiles after such a long wait. After a full year of sessions and perseverance, the impossible became a reality for everyone who knew his story.
Wahaj’s story is one of many that unfold every day within the project to operate the Prosthetics and Rehabilitation Center in Seiyun. In this center, the details of hope are redrawn for children and the injured, so that they can stand on their feet again and regain a chance at a dignified life.
This continuing generosity comes through the kind funding of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, and is implemented by the International Wars and Disasters Victims Protection Association (Alameen) in Yemen – Seiyun, as part of Alameen Organization’s efforts to support those affected and ease their suffering.
Wahaj’s story reminds us that early treatment, specialized care, and humanitarian support can change a child’s whole destiny. Every step a child takes in this center is a message of hope to every family waiting for its own small miracle.
