Humanitarian Stories

Haj Salem Walks Again with a Prosthetic Limb in Seiyun

When determination meets the wisdom of long years, time cannot stop the steps of a man who built stories with his own hands. From the old alleys of Al-Mukalla in Hadramout Governorate, Yemen, Haj Salem (60) returns to walk steadily once more, turning the shock of amputation and the toll of diabetes into a story of resilience.
Decades of struggle halted suddenly by diabetes
For many decades, Haj Salem relied on his own two feet to work and to support his family. Then diabetes suddenly stopped that journey. He faced a painful decision, the amputation of his lower limb, and one question occupied his mind: how can I keep building my life?
From the edge of surrender to the Prosthetics Center
Haj Salem was never one to give up. He turned to the Prosthetics and Physiotherapy Center in the city of Seiyun, Hadramout Governorate, to begin a new chapter for his body and his work. The center’s staff welcomed him as a person with a story, not as just another case. Through careful assessment and intensive training, his body relearned what it means to stand and walk again.
Today, Haj Salem walks on his prosthetic limb
Today he walks on his prosthetic limb and returns to his work and to caring for his family in the alleys of his city. With every step he shows that willpower cannot be broken, and that amputation is not the end of the road.
A humanitarian project that restores hope
This work is part of the project to operate the Prosthetics and Rehabilitation Center in Seiyun, generously funded by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre. It is implemented by the International Wars and Disasters Victims Protection Association (IRVD), represented by Alameen Organization. Haj Salem’s story reflects the impact of this support on beneficiaries’ lives, as people who have lost limbs find prosthetic services and medical rehabilitation in one place.
