Training in Sexual and Reproductive Health in Afrin Region
With the support of Médecins Sans Frontières – France mission and in collaboration with Ameen Humanitarian Support Organization, a training program on Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) was organized in Afrin, northern Syria. The training targeted midwives and female doctors working in healthcare facilities supported by Médecins Sans Frontières and Ameen Humanitarian Support Organization.
The training was delivered by specialized trainers in SRH from Médecins Sans Frontières, It commenced on May 21st and will continue until May 24th in Afrin, northern Syria, The aim of the training is to enhance the capacity and proficiency of midwives and female doctors in dealing with complex cases and providing comprehensive and specialized healthcare in the field of SRH for women. Furthermore, it seeks to improve their knowledge and skills in the area of SRH.

Comprehensive Healthcare Provision: The training aims to enhance the understanding of midwives and female doctors regarding comprehensive SRH, encompassing physical, emotional, and social aspects, The focus is on delivering integrated care to women at all stages of their lives, from adolescence to menopause.
Health Awareness Promotion: The training seeks to increase awareness about SRH issues and common related concerns. Emphasis is placed on promoting knowledge about safe and effective contraception and family planning methods, as well as introducing reproductive health diseases and methods of prevention.
Safe and Integrated Maternal Care: This encompasses learning the necessary skills for providing healthcare to women during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum. This includes understanding techniques for assisting in natural childbirth, monitoring fetal status and maternal health, and managing potential complications.
Counseling and Education: The training aims to equip midwives and female doctors with guidance and education skills to educate women on SRH issues. The focus is on providing essential information and advice regarding family planning, safe sexual relationships, and healthy nutrition during pregnancy.
Promotion of Women’s Rights: The training aims to promote the fundamental concept of women’s rights to access appropriate and safe SRH care, It is provided to midwives and female doctors in a way that encourages them to advocate for women’s rights and address the challenges and discrimination faced by women in the field of SRH.
By improving the capacity and empowerment of midwives and female doctors, this initiative aims to provide high-quality SRH care, enhance women’s health, and promote awareness, knowledge, and skills in the field of SRH. Moreover, the training emphasizes guidance and education on women’s rights to access dignified and safe SRH care. It is designed to encourage trainees to promote women’s rights and address the challenges and discrimination faced by women in the field of SRH.
How are complex cases during childbirth managed?
This aspect covers a wide range of topics and skills that enable healthcare providers to deliver safe and effective care to mothers and infants during and after childbirth. It includes addressing complex childbirth situations such as breech births, postpartum hemorrhage, and shoulder dystocia, Trainees are taught how to quickly diagnose and make appropriate medical decisions to manage these complications safely and effectively. Additionally, they are provided with knowledge on how to communicate effectively with mothers and families during complex childbirth, including providing emotional support and medical information in a professional and sensitive manner. Trainees are also trained on the use of advanced techniques and tools in the management of complex childbirth cases. The training emphasizes teamwork and effective communication with other members of the healthcare team, such as doctors, nurses, and other specialists, to achieve comprehensive and collaborative patient care. Overall, the training aims to equip midwives and female doctors with the necessary skills and knowledge to handle complex childbirth cases, thereby improving the quality of healthcare provided to women and children.
