International Prosthetics Day: A Will That Turns Challenge into Independence and Brings Hope Back in Sarmada, Marib, Taiz, and Aden

On International Prosthetics Day, we pause to remember people who faced the loss of a limb and decided that their will would be stronger than that loss. A prosthetic limb is not merely a replacement for a missing part of the body. It is a bridge that brings a person back to life and to society, giving them a fresh chance to walk, work, and pursue their dreams with confidence.

When someone loses a limb, it affects more than their movement. It also affects how they see themselves and how far they can rely on themselves. That is why fitting a prosthetic limb is only one part of the story. What is needed is a complete journey that begins with careful assessment and the design of a limb suited to each case, continues through physiotherapy sessions and training in how to use the limb, and ends with helping the beneficiary return to daily life. This journey requires a patient, specialized team that believes every person has their own story and their own needs.

In this field, Al-Ameen Organization continues to provide its services through prosthetics and rehabilitation centers in several cities. In the city of Sarmada, in Idlib governorate, Syria, the center offers services for designing and fitting prosthetic limbs, along with specialized rehabilitation programs that help beneficiaries improve their functional performance and strengthen their independence. In Yemen, the prosthetics and rehabilitation centers in the city of Marib, the city of Taiz, and the city of Aden work to support people who have lost limbs and to accompany them on their path toward self-reliance. The prosthetics center in the city of Reyhanli, Turkey, also serves beneficiaries.

The importance of these centers goes beyond the medical side. Every prosthetic limb fitted successfully means a child returning to school with steadier steps, a father or mother regaining the ability to work and support their family, and a young person rejoining their community and feeling like an active partner in it. Physiotherapy after fitting is an essential part of this journey, because it teaches beneficiaries how to handle their new limb and builds the strength and balance they need to move safely.

On this day, we extend our appreciation to everyone working in this field, from doctors and prosthetic technicians to physiotherapists and everyone behind the scenes. You do not simply make limbs. You restore people’s confidence in themselves and their ability to move forward. May you always remain a source of support for those who need you.
