Field Steps to Strengthen Physical Rehabilitation Services and Prosthetics in Sudan

As part of an integrated response plan to support those affected by conflicts and disasters, Alameen Organization (the International Relief and Victims of War and Disasters Association, IRVD) held a meeting with the National Council for Disability in Sudan. The meeting discussed ways to expand physical rehabilitation and prosthetic limb services so they can reach as many people in need as possible.

The meeting covered several key issues, foremost among them plans to reopen the rehabilitation center in the city of Dongola in Northern State, restoring its role in serving people with disabilities and injured persons who need care and rehabilitation. Both sides also discussed completing the equipping of the prosthetics center at Omdurman Teaching Hospital in the city of Omdurman, Khartoum State, in preparation for it entering service soon.

These steps stem from the participants’ recognition of how important rehabilitation services are in the lives of the injured and people with disabilities. Prosthetic limbs and physical rehabilitation programs help them regain mobility and carry out their daily lives with greater independence and dignity. Providing these services inside the country also eases the burden on families and brings care closer to those who need it in different regions.

This coordination between Alameen Organization and the National Council for Disability reflects both sides’ commitment to joining efforts and complementing each other’s roles, in order to build a rehabilitation system better able to respond to growing needs in Sudan. The organization continues its work supporting health and rehabilitation centers, aiming to ensure that services reach as many beneficiaries as possible.
