500 Free Eye Surgeries in Mogadishu as Part of the “Noor Saudi 2026” Project
The volunteer project “Noor Saudi 2026” has been officially launched in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, with the aim of fighting blindness and easing the suffering of people with eye diseases. The launch took place at Al-Madina Hospital in the presence of officials, in coordination with the Somali Ministry of Health and the Saudi Embassy in Somalia.
The project is supported by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre. It provides full medical eye examinations for beneficiaries, along with 500 eye surgeries that are completely free of charge. It targets the most vulnerable groups, who cannot afford the cost of treatment and surgery.
The project’s services will continue at Al-Madina Hospital in Mogadishu until the end of December 2026, giving patients a wider opportunity to receive examinations and treatment during this period.
The importance of this initiative lies in the fact that many cases of vision loss can be treated if the patient reaches healthcare in time. By offering free surgery in a local hospital under the supervision of official health authorities, the project opens a door of hope for hundreds of families in Somalia whose daily lives have been affected by poor eyesight or its loss.
The cooperation between the Somali Ministry of Health, the Saudi Embassy, and the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre is an example of partnership in humanitarian and health work, and it helps support the health sector in Mogadishu and improve access to eye care services.
