Women breast abscess
Sometimes women can get a breast abscess.
It is a small mass full of pus that grows under the skin of the breast due to infection, which causes pain and an unpleasant appearance. This abscess increases the woman’s concerns about its causes and indications. Breast abscess usually occurs during breastfeeding, as it is caused by retention of milk in the breast, causing bacteria to multiply and inflammation to happen, eventually becoming an abscess.
Apart from breastfeeding, an abscess can occur due to a bacterial infection in the breast caused by any internal or external factors affecting the body, as the immune system cannot resist these bacteria, and thus breast abscess occurs.
“Zahra Mohammed Abbas”, 37 years old, visited us at the Tal Al-Hawa Health Center, supported by Al-Ameen for humanitarian support, with a complaint of pain and heat in the breast. By examination, it was found that there was a rather hard mass with signs of inflammation (heat, edema, pain and redness). She was given anti-inflammatory and anti-edema in the first review.
After a week, the signs and symptoms were not relieved, so the medical staff at the centre referred her to a specialised clinic in Beza’a to perform a mammogram image. The imaging result was the presence of a benign, external breast abscess without any risks or complications that might reflect badly on the patient’s health.
The patient was given a complementary treatment for the abscess with antibiotics. She was completely cured after continuous follow-up and supervision by the midwife “Sawon Al-Hussein”, who followed up with the patient in the smallest details until she reached full recovery.
