Project of Yemeni orphans’ empowerment

Al-Ameen Organization has been working to support people and help people everywhere it can reach. In particular, to support the segments of humanity most in need of attention and follow-up, and to strengthen resilience to life’s challenges, in a world fraught with wars, conflicts, and crises.

Children are at the front of these humanitarian groups, which always require special attention and careful follow-up, especially in times of wars and conflicts. Where children are exposed to a tremendous number of psychological pressures that negatively affect them, disturb their psychological balance, and the child’s inability to express what is wandering within him and the extent of pain he feels increases the impact of these crises.

With Al-Ameen for Humanitarian Support ” in Yemen following the conflict that has been going on for more than six years, the reality of Yemeni children – especially orphans – is clearly evident in a way that calls for urgent intervention in order to support them and strengthen their resilience. The available statistics on the reality of Yemeni orphans and their families – which amounted to more than a million orphans – show the scale of the tragedy, which has reached dangerous levels, and that led to a humanitarian crisis that must be controlled.

“Al-Ameen Organization” has launched “Project of Yemeni orphans’ empowerment” in several Yemeni governorates, through which the focus will be on a complete program to ensure, rehabilitate and integrate orphan children in Yemen and empower them.

A painful reality!

There are more than 1.1 million orphans in Yemen who share the same suffering, even if there are many causes. The orphan is a child who lost one or both of his parents, and was left to face life’s difficulties with two small hands, to find himself a victim of exploitation or crime.

The project of Yemeni orphans’ empowerment seeks to compensate this orphan child as much as possible for depriving him of the tenderness of the father or mother, because the loss of parents at this age leaves severe effects on the person throughout his life and on the society in which he lives, especially if the orphan child does not find smile for him and hands tender on him.

A previous report on orphans in Yemen stated that 60 percent of them cannot complete their education, three percent have special needs, and four percent suffer from psychological problems – especially depression – while nine percent of orphan mothers suffer from chronic diseases and disabilities. Likewise, 70 percent of orphan families lack the necessary health services, and are unable to buy medicine and pay for treatment in hospitals.

Studies indicate that orphans are the most affected groups as a result of the war, which has caused a large number of children in general to suffer many psychological problems that cannot be easily treated in the short term, especially since we are in a society that is ashamed of psychological treatment. Likewise, most of the orphans are not currently enrolled in school, but have had to work in order to meet their basic requirements, and some of them resort to begging and others to steal, not to mention that some Houthi militias have forcibly recruited these orphan children to fight in their ranks.

Project activities

The idea of ​​the project is based on providing integrated care for the families of orphans, and economic recovery, through providing shelter and food, as well as educational means for orphans, accessing services and ensuring their regularity in education, and the project also includes providing psychological and health care for orphans.

The project also works to alleviate the suffering of 1000 orphans among the orphans who are in Yemen, by providing a monthly guarantee that enables orphan children to enhance their resilience and the resilience of their families in the face of life and war difficulties, in addition to providing clothing for the orphan, and a cash grant to teach him.

The school bag is also provided with all the stationery that the student needs, in addition to providing primary health care services and providing mental health services, as primary health care centers and mental health centers have been contracted to inspect and conduct the necessary monthly checks for the orphans benefiting from the project free of charge and on a monthly basis.

The project generally works to improve the conditions that orphans and their families live in under the difficult conditions that the country is experiencing, in order to preserve them from displacement, deviations and extremism, and to reunite families so that they do not disintegrate and become vulnerable to loss, and in order to establish them in their original areas as much as possible.

The families of orphans or their dependents are also indirect beneficiaries of the project of Yemeni orphans’ empowerment, as sponsoring orphans reduces the financial burden on the families and families of orphans, and contributes to relieving family burdens by relying on others to secure their requirements.

Ensuring integrative care for orphans and their families will benefit society in Yemen on the social and economic levels, and thus the surrounding community is considered to also indirectly benefit from this project, whether by not spreading the phenomenon of homelessness and begging, or through the mitigation of ignorance in society.
