100 New Hopes for Syrian Children to Hear Again through Cochlear Implant Surgeries Supported by KSrelief
Under the “Hear Saudi Arabia” program, supported by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, the International Association is preparing to carry out approximately 100 cochlear implant surgeries for Syrian children. This process begins with a series of thorough evaluation stages based on strict criteria to ensure the selection of cases with the highest potential for effective and sustainable outcomes.
The first stage focuses on accurate medical diagnosis, where the degree of sensorineural hearing loss is determined using specialized audiological tests and radiological imaging to confirm the integrity of the auditory nerve and ensure the procedure can be performed safely.
The second stage involves determining the appropriate age for surgery—ideally between 9 months and under 5 years—while also considering the family’s ability to provide a supportive environment and actively participate in future rehabilitation programs.
In the third stage, the healthcare team evaluates the child’s overall health to ensure there are no medical conditions that could hinder the surgery or lead to complications, confirming that the child’s general health status is stable.
The fourth stage focuses on family awareness. This includes assessing the family’s understanding of the surgical procedure and post-operative care, as well as setting realistic expectations for the implant outcomes.
All these interconnected stages are designed to ensure the highest standards of safety and effectiveness, aiming to achieve the best possible results for beneficiaries. This reflects the International Association’s commitment to improving quality of life and enhancing the future of Syrian children with hearing impairments.
