Rital Walks Again – A Story of Hope for World Refugee Week
From the city of Aleppo to the Turkish town of Reyhanli, young Rital embarked on a journey of displacement forced by the devastating earthquake of February 6, 2023, which struck both Syria and Türkiye, leaving behind unforgettable wounds.
In a single moment, Rital lost her family, her home, and her legs. All she had left was her grandmother — and with her, she began a new chapter of life that no longer resembled a childhood.
In a small house, filled with emotions of pain and disbelief, Rital watched children walk to school from behind the window — unable to move, trapped in memories and loss.
In May 2024, as part of the Hayat Volunteer Campaign and with generous support from the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, the International Association “Al-Ameen” stepped in with a specialized medical team to provide vital medical and rehabilitation support for children affected by the disaster — including Rital.
At the association’s Prosthetics Center, Rital underwent a thorough assessment and was fitted with carefully designed prosthetic limbs. A comprehensive physical and psychological rehabilitation program followed.
The moment she stood on her feet again was more than just a medical milestone — it was a reclaiming of life and hope.
The prosthetic limbs weren’t just tools for walking; they became a symbol of unbreakable will, and proof that effective humanitarian support can truly change a person’s fate.
Today, Rital walks, smiles, and inspires.
Her story lights the path for thousands of refugees affected by conflict and disaster, reaffirming the commitment of the International Association “Al-Ameen” to empowering affected children and standing by them on their journey to healing and dignity.
On this World Refugee Day, we honor Rital — and every person who has been given a second chance at life through the power of humanity.
