The story of Shahd Al-Asal…during Refugee Week

During Refugee Week, we are inspired by the story of Shahd Al-Asal, a four-year-old girl who lost her mother and limbs in the rubble of the 2023 Turkey-Syria earthquake. Forty hours of suffering, but she never lost hope. In May 2024, she received help from the “Hayat Volunteering” campaign, supported by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, and her journey towards recovery began. A prosthetic limb and a wheelchair were not just tools, but new wings that helped her soar towards reclaiming her life. During World Refugee Week, we emphasize the role of the International Association “Al-Amin” in providing comprehensive support to Syrian refugees in Turkey, providing them with the health and psychological care they need. Stories like Shahd’s remind us of the strength of will and the importance of human solidarity in the face of adversity, and that hope is a right for every refugee.
